Staff Engineer, Systems & Tooling - Monopoly GO!
Scopely
Scopely is looking for a Staff Engineer, Systems & Tooling to serve on and elevate our casual game, Monopoly GO in Barcelona!
At Scopely, we care deeply about what we do and want to inspire play every day - whether in our work environments alongside our talented colleagues or through our deep connections with our communities of players. We are a global team of game lovers who are developing, publishing and innovating the mobile games industry, connecting millions of people around the world daily.
The Monopoly GO! team is one of our key franchises and has become one of Scopely’s largest games. The teams sit globally, with the bulk of their members located throughout Spain and the US.
What You’ll Do
This is a high-impact, cross-functional technical leadership role focused on how we build and operate the game — not gameplay, but the tools, systems, and infrastructure that support our creative and operational excellence.
As a Staff Engineer, you will own critical systems across config validation, automation, asset workflows, observability, and Unity runtime engineering. You'll lead through system design, mentorship, and architectural vision — enabling scalable solutions that unlock the work of dozens of developers, artists, QA and LiveOps specialists.
- Architect and develop Unity-based tooling and systems that scale across multiple teams and domains
- Design and maintain robust configuration validation systems (schemas, toggles, rollback safety, etc.)
- Build frameworks for runtime and editor test automation
- Develop asset validation, preview, and ingestion tools for QA, Tech Art, and Art teams
- Lead efforts in observability, diagnostics, crash reporting, and performance monitoring
- Collaborate cross-functionally with QA, Tech Art, Product, LiveOps, and Engineering teams
- Act as a mentor and technical guide for engineers across disciplines
- Perform architectural reviews, lead design discussions, and ensure system integrity
- Prototype and evaluate AI-assisted workflows and tools
What We’re Looking For
- Strong communication skills, with ability to align diverse teams and clarify complex decisions
- Strong fundamentals in system design, architecture, and cross-team communication
- Proven experience in building internal tools and scalable systems in Unity
- Operational mindset: observability, testability, performance, and maintainability
- Experience working with QA, Tech Art, or non-engineering stakeholders
- Experience mentoring other engineers and leading through influence, not authority
- Familiarity with Git, CI pipelines, Docker, and cloud services (AWS, GCP, etc.)
- Bonus: Experience with mobile live service games, runtime config systems, or editor scripting
Nice to Have
- Contributions to creative or technical projects (tools, mods, games, pipelines)
- Experience with AI-enhanced developer tools or automation workflows
- Familiarity with Unity performance profiling, packaging, and asset pipeline optimization
- Exposure to large-scale content pipelines or multi-team LiveOps environments
Why This Role MattersThis isn’t a traditional IC role. You’ll be a force multiplier for the entire org — creating resilient systems, mentoring engineers, and shaping the future of how we build Monopoly GO! If you thrive on empowering others through elegant tooling and system thinking, we’d love to talk to you.
