Overview
Tonal is seeking a results-driven Senior Strategist, Member Retention to play a critical role in driving member engagement and reducing churn. Reporting to the Director of Member Engagement, this role will focus on developing and optimizing channel-specific engagement strategies across Email, Push, In-App, SMS, and Product Notifications designed to help members hit early milestones, prevent inactivity, and reduce churn.
What You Will Do
Drive channel-specific engagement strategies across Email, Push, In-App, SMS, and Product Notifications, prioritizing personalization, timeliness, tone, and encouraging habit formation.
Develop and optimize onboarding communication experiences that spark early activation and build a foundation for long-term engagement.
Increase member engagement, reduce inactivity, and proactively help prevent churn through data-driven segmentation and tailored messaging.
Champion a culture of experimentation, testing new messaging formats, cadence strategies, and channel tactics to unlock performance improvements.
Partner closely with Product, Content, Marketing, Data and Care teams to align retention efforts with broader member engagement goals.
Integrate voice of customer (VOC) insights into retention strategies, ensuring communications resonate and drive meaningful member behaviors.
Build scalable automation strategies in platforms such as OneSignal and Klaviyo, maximizing reach and efficiency.
Report on campaign performance, surfacing insights that inform ongoing strategy, optimization, and cross-functional alignment.
Who You Are
5+ years of experience in retention, product growth, or product marketing within a high-volume subscription environment.
Deep understanding of the customer lifecycle, subscription management, and strategies to drive retention.
Proven track record in channel execution (Email, Push, SMS, In-app), with expertise in segmentation and personalization.
Strong hands-on experience leveraging automation platforms to drive engagement (we use OneSignal and Klaviyo.)
Ability to design and execute experiments that measure impact on engagement and churn.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data and insights into actionable strategies.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to present ideas clearly across stakeholders.
Collaborative, cross-functional mindset with proven success partnering across product, content, and marketing teams.
